Catharine House

CATCH – Citizens Acting Together Can Help, Inc. – sought emergency funding to sustain 6 transitional housing units at Catharine House, located in South Philadelphia. This facility provided transitional housing for 12 individuals living with chronic mental illness and co-occurring disorders through a mix of 8 SROs (single-room occupancy units) and 2 double-occupancy rooms.

Catharine House offers 24/7 supervision and care, serving residents referred through the CATCH continuum, hospitals, or the City’s Office of Mental Health.

Residents at Catharine House faced significant barriers including homelessness, psychiatric illness, and substance use. CATCH provided not only housing but also an array of supportive services—including case management, medication management, personal care assistance, budgeting and nutrition education, and access to job readiness programs. These services enabled residents to stabilize, build daily living skills, and work toward reintegration into the community. The property included 4,000 square feet of living space and dedicated office space for staff.

Stone Sherick Consulting Group played a key advisory and grant preparation role in this initiative. Specifically, Stone Sherick:

  • Assisted CATCH in preparing the emergency funding application, including articulating the urgent need, resident services, and funding strategy.
  • Guided the project team through funding requirements, ensuring a clear case was made for the internal rent subsidy model.
  • Provided strategic consulting that positioned Catharine House as an essential part of the City’s homelessness response infrastructure.

Stone Sherick’s expertise in affordable and supportive housing financing ensured that CATCH was well-prepared to advocate for and secure the resources necessary to sustain critical housing units for some of Philadelphia’s most vulnerable residents.
