Main Campus Renovation Description
The Tuerk House Main Campus Renovation will transform the organization’s headquarters at 730 Ashburton Street in West Baltimore into a modern, efficient treatment facility that expands capacity and improves quality of care. The 100-room building, originally part of Lutheran Hospital, will undergo comprehensive upgrades to its heating, plumbing, and electrical systems, as well as window replacements and full bathroom and kitchen renovations. Space will be reconfigured to create a more functional layout, add an additional group room for the outpatient program, and increase bed capacity to better meet the needs of individuals struggling with substance use disorder. When complete, the project will allow Tuerk House to serve more than 500 additional clients each year.
Tuerk House, a nonprofit provider established in 1970, has helped more than 40,000 individuals overcome addiction to alcohol and drugs. The organization serves primarily low-income and medically indigent residents, providing a full continuum of care ranging from inpatient residential programs to intensive outpatient and recovery housing. The Ashburton Street campus houses withdrawal management, intermediate care, and partial hospitalization programs, as well as innovative services such as Maryland’s first Crisis Stabilization Center. These programs are designed to help clients stabilize, access wrap-around services, and transition back into the community as healthy, productive individuals.
The renovation is part of a multi-phase plan to modernize and expand the main campus, which has already included the full renovation of the third floor and construction of new program space. Additional improvements will further enhance safety, comfort, and efficiency while creating an environment that encourages recovery. By modernizing its facilities, Tuerk House will be better positioned to address Baltimore’s urgent need for high-quality addiction treatment and recovery services.
